Position title: Scientist II

Email: karumattuman@wisc.edu

About me: I am currently a Scientist II at the Pediatric Neuromodulatory Lab at the Waisman Center, University of Wisconsin-Madison. My research is rooted in neuroimaging, biomechanics, and biomedical engineering, with a particular focus on understanding brain function and connectivity, especially in individuals with neurological impairments. I utilize multimodal neuroimaging techniques, including fNIRS, fMRI, and DTI, to explore the effects of cognitive load on postural control and brain health. I am passionate about translating my findings into practical interventions that can improve cognitive and physical functioning in neurologically ill populations. I did my PhD in Bioengineering( Neuroimaging) from SCTIMST, Trivandrum, India. I was Post doctoral research associate at Department of Biomechanics at UNOMAHA, Nebraska

What Motivates me: It is the potential for translational impact that research in the biomedical field can have, particularly in the context of pediatric populations. At the Pediatric Neuromodulatory Lab (PNL), the opportunity to influence children’s health at such an early age is especially inspiring. The ability to apply my research to improve cognitive and physical outcomes in children with neurological conditions is truly rewarding. I am driven by the possibility of making a meaningful difference in the lives of young patients, contributing to early interventions that can have lasting effects on their development and overall well-being.
